WE CAN see what is possible.
Don has been living with MS for 20 years. He doesn’t let MS stop him from doing things. Don and Betsy travel as much they can.
“I readjust expectations so I can enjoy life,” said Don. “I stay active so I’m not dwelling on my MS too much. It’s important to understand your MS and not let it defeat you.”
It took Don four years after Betsy suggested attending Can Do MS's CAN DO Program to commit to the CAN DO Program.
“One day he called me at work and said I’m going to the program,” said Betsy. “Do you think you can take time off work? I planted the seed and it grew four years later.”
They agreed that they couldn't have received such individualized attention from an interdisciplinary team of health professionals specializing in MS anywhere else but the CAN DO Program. One of the many things Don learned from his team of Can Do MS's professionals was that by adjusting his bike seat and doing yoga, he could ride his bike and use his left leg more effectively.
“The CAN DO Program is worth twice the amount we had to pay,” said Betsy. “I’ve never been with a group of people in which we shared so many similar stories. It was the best and most enlightening five days I’ve experienced.”
Betsy gained strength from sharing with and listening to other support partners at the program. “The program was inspiring because we came away thankful that we’ve come so far,” said Betsy.
WE ARE stronger because we face our challenges together.
A yoga instructor comes to their house so that Don and Betsy can do it together.
“You don’t develop depth in relationships without hard things in life,” said Betsy. “Don doesn’t get to go to the neurologist without me. Honest and open conversation is key to managing MS.”
“Don is an inspiration,” Betsy said. “He deals with MS with grace.”
