Edwards, Colo. Sept. 22, 2010 - The Jimmie Heuga Center Endowment (http://www.mscando.org/multiple-sclerosis-support/jimmie-heuga-center-endowment/) has contracted Mike Marolt and Montezuma Basin Productions to create a documentary film on the life of Jimmie Heuga.
This made-for-TV film will serve as a permanent motivational testimony and educational documentary to be used by Can Do MS in promoting programs and services which positively impact the lives of people living with the chronic disease of multiple sclerosis.
"His (Heuga's) story is a super-star story that comes along very rarely. He was a true hero," said Mike Marolt, filmmaker and former Can Do MS board member. "We need to preserve Jimmie's MS legacy as both a motivational story for people living with MS, and to continue the work that he started by founding the organization. I also believe it can represent a story that will inspire people in all aspects of their lives. What he did is amazing."
The film details Heuga’s can do spirit as he pioneered the use of exercise and nutrition to better manage the affects of his MS. It tells the incredible story of how one man rejected traditional medical advice and proved his treatment philosophy for MS worked, achieving recognition from the MS clinical community. A tribute to Heuga’s vision, the film provides the empowerment message which forms the basis of Can Do MS's mission to improve the quality of life for those living with the disease.
In addition to Mike Marolt, the production team includes award-winning director and producer Les Guthman, who produced 3 of the 20 Top Adventure DVDs of All Time, according to Men’s Journal magazine. Mike and Les worked together on the film Skiing Everest. They documented the challenges experienced in striving for an extreme goal accomplished by only an elite few. Similarly, the story of Heuga tells how this elite Olympic athlete overcame significant obstacles to save himself and achieve his goal to help people living with MS experience what they can do.
