I have learned several new and important pieces of information from Can Do MS's webinars. It is the type of information that you don't even know to ask about. So I wouldn't have asked my doctor about it. I am especially pleased to find out about neuroplasticity and pre-cooling and post-cooling as related to exercise. Thank you for your efforts on behalf of MS patients like myself.

in Melville, NY – Saturday, April 12, 2014

Program held in collaboration with the National MS Society – Long Island Chapter

Avon, Colo. • March 25, 2014 – Can Do Multiple Sclerosis is excited to present a free one-day JUMPSTART IN MOTION Program on Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Melville, NY at the Melville Marriott Long Island.  JUMPSTART IN MOTION is an educational and interactive program where people living with MS and their support partners learn the knowledge, skills and tools to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviors and actively co-manage their MS.  This particular program will focus on movement and mobility issues and will offer a special session for support partners to specifically address their concerns. In collaboration with the National MS Society – Long Island Chapter, JUMPSTART IN MOTION provides presentations, workshops and interactive sessions so participants can see themselves beyond the challenges of their MS.

“Traditional medical models for managing chronic disease tend to overlook many important aspects of living with MS, including the emotional, interpersonal, mental and social health of a patient,” said Lauri O’Brien, Director of Programs, Can Do MS. “We offer a comprehensive, personalized and interdisciplinary approach to enable people to become active co-managers of their health and well-being.”

Can Do MS connects the expertise of industry professionals across the field of MS care management including neurologists, psychologists, occupational and physical therapists, speech and language pathologists, registered nurses, physicians and nutritionists.  Each JUMPSTART IN MOTION Program is customized to cover topics ranging from exercise, physical activity, mobility, goal-setting and maintaining motivation and emotional well-being.

    Scheduled Presentations and Workshops:

    - Personal Growth: Expanding Your Horizons – David Rintell, EdD

    - Invisible Symptoms – Pat Kennedy, RN, CNP, MSCN

    - Secrets to Strength Training – Mandy Rohrig, PT, DPT

    - Support Partner Workshop – David Rintell, EdD

The support partner workshop provides a unique opportunity for a spouse, parent, sibling, friend, neighbor etc. to not only expand their own understanding of MS, but to actively participate in identifying their needs, goals, concerns and challenges to live fully with MS together.

This program is limited to 100 participants and will fill quickly. Lunch will be provided.  Can Do MS’s JUMPSTART IN MOTION Program is sponsored by Acorda Therapeutics (Nasdaq: ACOR).
